Unit 9: Console and encourage.

Adam - Hey, Nandu, you look a bit down. What's the matter?

Nandu - Oh, I've just heard that my sister has got a job in Manchester and he's moving away.

Adam - Oh, right. Sorry to hear that. It isn't the end of the world though.

Nandu - I know, but I'm really going to miss him.

Adam - Don't take it too badly - at least he won't be very far away and you can visit him. Manchester's a really cool city.

Nandu - That's true, I suppose.

Adam - Look at it this way - if he hadn't got that job, he'd have been really disappointed.

Nandu - Yeah, maybe you're right.

Adam - Cheer up! Come on - let's go to a café or something.

Nandu - OK. Thanks, Adam. I feel a bit better now.

Unit 7: Apologize for a misunderstanding

Adam: Excuse me. Can I have a word with you?

Cris: ...Yes, Is there a problem?

Adam: I'm afraid so. Did you know that this is private property?

Cris: No, I didn't.

Adam: Didn't you see the sign?

Cris: I'm afraid not.

Adam: Have you been here before to play football?

Cris: No, I live out of town.

Adam: Well, if I were you, I'd look for a different place.

Cris: OK. Sorry about that. I didn't realize.

Adam: That's OK. Remember for next time.

Change something in a shop

Cris - Hello. Are you OK there?

Adam - Yes, hi. I was given theses jeans as a present but they're too small. Is it OK if I change them?

Cris - That should be OK. Have you got the receipt?

Adam - Yes, here you are.

Cris - OK. Well actually, we've sold out of those jeans, I'm afraid. You can choose something else if you like.

Adam - Oh, right. Can I try these things on?

Cris - Yes, sure. The changing rooms are over there.

...

Adam - What do you think of this coat? It isn't too long, is it?

Cris - No, I don't think so. It's really funky.

Adam - OK. I'll take it then. Thanks.

Ask for and give information

Adam (assistant): Hello, there. Can I help you?
Cristina: Yes, I'm staying in Birmingham with a friend next week and we were wondering if there's anything to see around there. Have you got any information?
Adam: Yes, there are a lot visits of the city if you're interested.
Cristina: That sound good! What time do the visits start?
Adam: The visits starts at nine o'clock and finishes at ten o'clock.
Cristina: OK. And how much is the visit? We've got student cards.
Adam: Let's see. Well, in that case it's £10 per person.
Cristina: That's fine. We'll go on Tuesday, then. Do we need to book it?
Adam: I'll book it for you if you like. Can I take your names?
